| Strandhotel Belvedere in Bern, Switzerland
The hotel is situated over the Bay of Spiez. Wonderful view of the lake and the surrounding mountains. An idyllic garden and our private beach invite you to a relaxing stay away from the traffic. Elegant decorated rooms, a smart restaurant with seasonal specialties and selected wines. The beach hotel and restaurant Belvedere opened its doors to the public in 1908. A room for the night with full board cost CHF 5, which was a great sum of money at the time. The first guests were waited on in grand fashion in the Salon Rouge, which has retained its Belle Époque style to this day. The hotel lost much of its grandeur in and between the war years. A new era dawned for the hotel in 1947 when the building was bought by the Swiss Association of Master Butchers. It became one of the best-known hotels on Lake Thun, and was the first four-star hotel in the region to install an electric lift. The German national football team chose the hotel as their home when Switzerland hosted the World Championships in 1954. Many believe the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel and Spiez contributed to the Germans unforgettable last-minute victory in the final over the strong favourites, Hungary, 3-2.
